On 31 May 2024, about 70 participants, including families from ComLink+* @ Jurong West and UOL volunteers and their families, had a wonderful afternoon at the National Family Festival (NFF) at the Singapore Expo. After a hearty lunch together, they participated in exciting sports such as basketball and hockey, bouncy castles, as well as art and craft workshops.
In support of the NFF initiative by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) aimed at building strong and resilient families, for the first time, UOL invited the families of its volunteers to come along to engage the families of ComLink+ @ Jurong West at the NFF carnival event.
Eight-year-old Jolie Ong shared that her mum, Ms Juliana Tan, UOL Assistant Risk Executive, inspired her to participate in the staff volunteering activity organised by UOL. Reflecting on her experience, Jolie beamed with joy and exclaimed that she felt happy to be part of it!
First-time UOL volunteer, Ms Nicole Ler, Assistant Asset Management Manager, who signed up to volunteer with her mum, said: “My mum already does volunteer work on her own frequently, so I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to volunteer with her. We enjoyed the time spent together and it was a meaningful afternoon with the families of ComLink+ @ Jurong West.”
At UOL, staff volunteerism is encouraged. The Group provides volunteering opportunities throughout the year for its employees to bond through meaningful activities and create a positive impact on the society.
*ComLink+ is an initiative by MSF to support families with young children living in rental housing. The Group has been supporting the initiative since 2023 through the launch of the UOL-PPHG Community Uplift Programme, which aims to provide the children from ComLink+ families with interesting and meaningful learning experiences.
